Guitar Barre Chords

Guitar Barre chords are created by using a finger to depress and hold at least two strings.

See basics

First there is the Grand Barre, which depresses all 6 strings simultaneusly and is usually played with other fingers depressing strings nearby.

Some chords can even use more than one finger to simultaeneusly depress more than one string.

An example of this is the A open position chords, where the index finger depresses all six strings. Then the ring finger depresses strings 4,3,2, two frets down.

Barre chords are based on chord forms used in the open chord position.

This site will use two basic open chords to produce barre chords.

Those two forms will be the E open and the A open position basic forms.

You will see that there is tremendous versatility in using barre chords.See chord scales .
