Guitar Pickups

The magnetic pickup consist of magnets and coil windings. There are single coil, and multiple coils.

The difference is that single coil pickups are sensitive to magnetic fields generated by transformers,flourescent lights, and other sources of interference. When near such fixtures they can hum and produce undesired noises.

Dual coiled pickup you've heard the trade name "Humbucking" pickups uses two similarly configured coils.

The two coil arrangement cancels out interference electronically when interference is equal in both coils.

Being equal the interfernce is cancelled in the output of the pickup.

There are many types of pickups on the market today. Every pickup has it's unique sound.

However sound product and quality also depends on the construction of the instrument's body.

Remember Quality pickups and a quality body will produce superior sound.
