Harmony Why It's Required

Harmony, is the assembly of complimentary tones, or notes. Complimentary notes give meaning to a piece of music and are pleasing to the ear.

Scales and chords use intervals and how different relate, is the basis for determining how notes are blended. Scale theory is rooted in the knowledge of intervals, Like wise chords theory is rooted in a good knowledge of intervals.

So intervals are the building blocks of the note blends that produce the music we love to hear. But when you get right down to it the ear can't be fooled.

We all know when something does not sound right, even if we can't read a stitch of music.
